Welcome to the City of Benton Harbor

The City of Benton Harbor is indeed a Port of Opportunity.

Located in the southwestern-most corner of Michigan, Benton Harbor overlooks the sparkling waters of Lake Michigan and offers immense opportunities for recreation, entertainment, business enterprises and affordable housing.

You can’t beat the beaches at Jean Klock Park, but don’t overlook all the other state, county and city parks nearby that offer lots of sand, sun, and back-to-nature fun. You’ll also find plenty of boating access for a day on Lake Michigan or to explore the miles of scenic shoreline of the St. Joseph River. Take some time to drive “Maker’s Trail,” where you’ll find locally-made wine, beer, and spirits. The world-class Harbor Shores Golf Course and many other area courses make Benton Harbor a premier destination for golfers.  To get back to nature, others choose to spend time at one of our many nearby orchards, cider mills and fruit farms or biking and walking the numerous scenic trails.

Benton Harbor has become revitalized with unique restaurants, shops, galleries, and pubs. You’ll find plenty to do either right here in the City or just a short drive away.  Check out all the attractions by visiting the Southwest Michigan Tourist Council.

Benton Harbor offers the convenience of being located just off I-94 between Chicago and Detroit. The area is also serviced by major airports, rail and commercial ports, which contribute to the strong diversification of the economic base. 54% of U.S. manufacturing and 65% of Canadian manufacturing are within 500 miles.

In 1986, Benton Harbor was designated as an Enterprise Zone in order to encourage business activity. The Enterprise Zone offers tax abatements and exemptions for commercial and industrial entrepreneurs. The exquisitely developed St. Joseph River waterfront encourages the growth of the area. Benton Harbor definitely represents a vibrant port for those seeking business opportunities.
